What We Do

The Cedar Park Elementary PTA is proud of the work we do to support our community. Here are some of the things we have accomplished:

Build friendships and community

• Summer playdates in the park

• Family movie nights

• Monthly Dine Out events

• Yearly Midwinter Festival

• Yearly Community Potluck & Cultural Event

Serve children in our community

• Partner with the Hunger Intervention Program to provide weekend meals

• Collected school supplies for local kids

• Donated winter coats and other supplies to the North Seattle Family Resource Center

• Advocated for crosswalks and traffic safety improvements in our community

Help Cedar Park Elementary Thrive

• Engage parents in discussions and decisions

• Support teachers in classrooms and library

• Significant contributions to enrollment outreach

• Participation in local and state-level advocacy for our school

Support student learning with talents, time and financial support

• Exclusively provide funding for IDEA Time Expeditionary Learning activities

• Established  a monthly, culturally diverse art enrichment program

• Learn and grow as parents and educators

• Provided parent education opportunities

• Continue important ongoing equity & diversity work as a PTA

Art Docent Program

The PTA ART DOCENT PROGRAM provides visual and performing arts enrichment for all K-5 students at Cedar Park, with a solid focus on social justice and equity. Art projects center around different cultural heritages, and offer kids opportunities for personal expression, creativity, and experimentation.

The program is run by volunteer art docents who plan and teach art lessons in-class, hire teaching artists for performances and workshops, and organize art enrichment events.

Equity and Diversity

We are a group of parents and staff working to interrupt and dismantle systems of injustice and inequity in our community. We aim to create a school where all are included, where diversity is the norm rather than the exception, where we talk bravely about race and social justice, and where parents and students advocate and care for themselves and one another.

Our work has included enrollment outreach in the Lake City neighborhood, collaboration with the Art Docent program, connecting with Equity Teams in nearby schools, and creating educational opportunities for ourselves and the community.

WANT TO GET INVOLVED?

The Equity Team is here to elevate underrepresented voices and viewpoints. Our primary job is to listen to these voices, to better understand these viewpoints, and to take action where necessary.

We firmly believe that the work of confronting and educating others about racism and systemic injustices should not rest on the shoulders of people of color (or members of any marginalized group). Rather, we feel that the bulk of this emotional and time-consuming labor should be done by those who have benefitted from these systems (for example, it makes sense to us that the onus of interrupting white supremacy is on white people).
